Tatami – ミニ畳

Tatami is a traditional Japanese flooring material. It is made by attaching a woven tatami facing, made of igusa (rush grass), to a board-like tatami floor that serves as the core material.

To secure the tatami facing and for decoration purposes, a band of cloth called “tatami edging” (tatamiberi) is sewn onto the edges. Tatami edging comes in various colors and designs, each carrying different meanings, providing an enjoyable experience in selecting one that suits your preference.

You will select the cloth for the tatami edging from a variety of patterns and then secure it using a tacker. As with actual tatami-making, you can also enjoy the process of creating it.

畳は日本の伝統的な床材です。芯材になる板状の畳床の表面に井草で織った敷物状の畳表を張り付けて作ります。
その畳表を止めるためと装飾を兼ねて、畳縁（たたみべり）と呼ばれる伝統模様が織り込まれた帯状の布を縫い付けます。
畳縁は色やデザインにより様々な意味合いがあり、それを踏まえてお選びいただく楽しみもあります。

様々な柄の中から畳縁となる布を選んでいただき、タッカーで止めていきます。実際の畳づくりと同様に作っていきますので、その工程も楽しんでいただけます。
